Heroes of Newerth

Last time I featured a Dota-like game called "Demigod", and now, I am introducing another Dota-like game.

Heroes of Newerth
is an upcoming OMA (online multiplayer arena), published by S2 Games, www.s2games.com. Game is currently on beta testing, and if you would like to play the game you need to have Beta keys so you can register an account.

Game is entirely based on DoTA. Most heroes and items are the same as well. The picture above shows a Chronofield (Chrono Sphere), Chronos' (Faceless Void) ultimate skill.

I've been given the opportunity to play the game. Got the keys from being their fan on facebook, I have been checking their profile almost every hour for two weeks since the keys they are giving away are limited.

I find the game addicting, just like DoTA, graphics is stunning. Most of the items, heroes and the skills are the same, but still geting used to them sometimes i get confused.

Some say that this game is the next generation of DoTA, some say that this game is a total rip off, but I believe this game have potential, but it would take a while to replace DoTA.

I will be posting character/item profiles on my next posts.

I will sending an invite for the top 2 people who will give donations ^_^
(Donations through paypal will be very much appreciated, see the donate button at the lower right side, just inform me by dropping a message on my message box. Thanks)

DoTA-like Game?

A God Has Fallen

The all father has vanished, creating an opening in the pantheon. To fill the void, Demigods from across from the mortal world must wage war against one another in a bid to ascend to true godhood.

Demigod is a real-time, tactical strategy game that includes extensive role-playing elements. Choose from several Demigods, each poised for battle with their own unique capabilities and awe-inspiring powers. Vanquish other would-be gods as you gain levels, increase in power, unlock the power of mystic artifacts and slowly battle your way closer to joining the Pantheon.

The game works the same as DoTA. You choose and level-up your Demigod(hero), creeps spawn automatically, Goal is to destroy the enemy's Citadel. You can play the game on a single/skirmish mode or multiplayer LAN/Online mode(heven't really tried the multiplayer mode yet).

Demigod
Publisher: Stardock
Developer: Gas Powered Games

Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2400+/Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz
Memory: 512 MB
Video Memory: 128 MB (nVidia GeForce 6800/Radeon Radeon X1600 128MB)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive
Broadband internet connection for Online-Multiplayer

Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+/Pentium 4 @ 3 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Video Memory: 256 MB (nVidia GeForce 7600/ATI Radeon x800)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c or 10
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive
Broadband internet connection for Online-Multiplayer

Tried running the game on systems that have these hardwares(as stated above)but the game didn't run as smooth as i expected. So I would recommend to at least have a dual core processor (2.2ghz+), at least 2gb of RAM and a graphics card that have at least 512mb/256bit(and of course it should support pixel shader 3, or the game will not run, you can check the card specification by visiting their respective manufacturer's website).

On my opinion, the game might look good but the gameplay isn't. Game is kinda boring, and maps are not really that strategic, unlike in DoTA where you can take advantage of the terrains, hide in trees, use blindspots, farm from neutral creeps etc. Let's wait and see, hopefully they come up with a patch that will make the game more interesting.

DoTA (Defense of the Ancients)

Warcraft Frozen Throne was released more than a couple of years ago but still it is a big hit not only here in the Philippines but also in other Asian countries because of the custom map "Defence of the Ancients" or DoTA.

DoTA is a team strategy game where players can choose which side and hero will he/she be playing. Players on the same side fight the other players on the opposing side to win the game. The objective of the games is to destroy the opponents’ base together with AI controlled units called creeps. Heroes start at level 1 and levels up to level 25. Heroes level up during the game while killing opposing heroes and creeps. Heroes gain skill when they gain additional levels. DOTA can be played as starting 1v1 up to 5v5. This could be against human players or AI controlled heroes which can be played on DOTA AI maps.

DOTA was originally developed by a mapmaker named Eul. There were different DOTA variations that time. The most popular one is DOTA All Stars which was developed by Guinsoo. When Guinsoo retired, IceFrog took over as the main programmer for the map.

DOTA is more on strategy than individual play. Even though players have their own heroes, it is their teamwork that is very important to winning the game. Although factors like individual skills also matter, a very good player with team mates that doesn’t care a lot about the team can’t just win by himself against all his opponents(unless of course he’s far too good and his opponents are new to the game).

DoTA can be played through a local area network, through Battlenet, or LAN oever the internet with the use of Hamachi or the most pupular Garena.

Since DoTA is a custom Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne map, it follows the same system requirements,

Minimum System Requirements:

* 400 MHz Pentium II or equivalent, or a 400 MHz G3 processor or better.
* Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. Warcraft III requires Mac OS® 9.0 or higher, or Mac OS X® 10.1.3 or higher
* Warcraft III requires 128 MB of RAM. Virtual Memory should be enabled on computers running pre-Mac OS X versions of the Mac OS®.
* A keyboard and mouse are required.
* A hard drive with at least 550 MB of free space

* 8MB 3D video card (TNT, i810, Voodoo 3, Rage 128 equivalent or better) with DirectX 8.1 support. For Mac OS® systems, a video card consisting of an ATI Technologies or nVidia chipset with at least 16 MB of memory is required.
* A DirectX-compatible 16-bit sound card is recommended. Warcraft III will work with the built-in sound features of the Mac OS®.

Recommended System Requirements:

* 600 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB of RAM
* 32 MB 3D Video card

Multiplayer Requirements:

* Access to Blizzard Entertainment's online gaming service, Battle.net, requires a low-latency, active Internet connection rated at 28.8 Kbps or faster.
* Multiplayer games played over a LAN require an active connection to a TCP/IP network.

There should be no problem with these requirements since computers nowadays are way over qualified for this game.

Start playing, invite your friends. I play through Garena everyday. I run a small Computer Cafe so blogging and playing DoTA is what I do everyday.

You can add me as your buddy if you play Garena, these past few days I play on Singapore and Vietnam rooms, of course to learn new tricks and strategies.

I will be posting updates, map download links and logs as well as tools and utilities that we can use to make our DoTA gaming more enjoyable.

You can download DoTA maps here
